A four-member Orissa squad bagged two silver medals in the 51st Open National Athletics Championship, which concluded at Yuva Bharati Krirangan in Kolkatal today.
Purnima Hembram secured a silver medal in women`s heptathlon event, scoring 4953 points, five points behind gold medallist KD Sindhu of Madhya Pradesh. This was 19-year-old Purnima`s first medal in the senior National championship.
The second medal, also a silver, was claimed by Srabani Nanda in women`s 200m sprint with timing of 24.52 seconds. Srabani earlier missed a bronze medal by finishing fourth in 100m sprint, clocking 12.05 seconds.
Orissa sprinter Saraswati Chand, who represented Police Department in the Kolkata Open Nationals, finished sixth in women`s 400m run, taking 57.14 seconds.
